2FA using a desktop app

If you don't have a phone that can get text messages, you will have to download an Authentication App to enable two-factor and have access to another phone. For this example, we used Authy. You can download this at https://authy.com/download/.

The goal of the authentication app is to create a unique code that you can use to get into your ActionID account. You get a code from VoteBuilder to put into the app, and then you get a code from the app to put into VoteBuilder.

Once you download the app and open it up, you will have to enter your phone number. This does not have to be a cell phone--any number you have access to is fine.

After verifying the phone number, you will be able to add your VoteBuilder account.

  1. Go to votebuilder.com
  2. If you are able to log in, click Manage Profile in the top right, then Manage ActionID.
  3. If you get an error, try following the first couple steps here.

Under the Two-Factor Authentication button, click on the option for Authenticator App.

Unless you are on a mobile device, click Camera Not Working to get the code you want to enter into the authenticator app.

Copy this code (highlight, Ctl+C) then paste it into the authenticator app (Ctl+V). The page below should show up once you click on the red plus under Add Account in the authenticator app.

Below your username, you will see a six digit code (or seven, or eight--whichever you chose) which you will have to quickly type into the Verification Code field in VoteBuilder. This code automatically refreshes every 30 seconds.

Now that you have two-factor enabled, click Remember This Device so you will only have get a new code once a month!
